Does anyone know if the intended use of revenue code 256 Experimental Drugs is for instances of a clinical trial only?

According to the Uniform Billing Editor, Rev code 256 is used only for experimental drugs not covered by CMS. MM3742 tells us to use Rev Code 636 for antic cancer drugs furnished during a clinical trial. You may want to check with your contractor and payers about billing guidance as the revenue code may be dependent on the drug. Your condition code (30) identifies clinical trial.
