Is there a possible E/M service for the following scenario? Our patient is deceased. The patient's husband and children requested our provider to go over the autopsy of the patient with them. The provider spent a significant amount of time with the family. Is there anything we can bill for?
Thanks a bunch.

My guess would be that you could not, since the patient is deceased. I have not tried this before, at the practice I worked at before, we would do it as a courtesy to the family. I wouldn't imagine insurance would pay any E/M on a deceased patient...but I could be wrong.
