Patient has Mediport for Metastatic cancer which lost it's function when if flipped and they weren't able to access it. Physician opened patient up through previous incision. The mediport had flipped and was easily flipped back. Wound was irrigated and then turned to closure.

I'm not sure what code to pick. It's clearly not a replacement or removal. Could I use 36575, Repair? It's not really a repair but I'm not sure what code to use. What about a 52 on the 36575?

Hi Julie:

A Mediport has an internal access port. Look at 36576.

A repair is to restore to a former condition. You may not need modifier -52. Good question. Anyone else have thoughts on this?
