I'm not sure if I agree with the CPT my Doctor chose for the patients procedure.

The treatment was for trochanteric bursitis.
The Doctor injected 40 mg of kenalog into the patients left trochanteric bursa, and she coded a 20551.
Shouldn't the code be 20610 because she injected into a major joint? cpt 20610.

Please help thank you

Rheumatology/bursa injection

The physicians at my office use 20610 for trochanteric bursitis injections. 20610 is for large joint or bursa. Query your physician on why she chose the other code.
