If a patient comes in for an eye exam- 99173 because they have to renew their drivers license (doesn't happen often but DMV's are closed in NY right now) is this a nurse visit in addition to 99173. And while we are at it what DX can we use?
Many thanks!

If an eye exam is all that is performed, then that's all you can bill - you can't just add on a 'nurse visit' charge unless there is some kind of additional service documented. Additionally, CPT 99211 - the usual code for an E&M service performed by a nurse - has to be a medically necessary service ordered by a provider as part of their plan of care for managing a patient's particular problem, so that would not be appropriate in this scenario.

The diagnosis code for an encounter for purposes of obtaining a driver's license is Z02.4.
