With the new ICD-10 coding system, I am wondering if a ruptured breast implant is considered a mechanical breakdown or leakage. No trauma involved, just old implants. Thoughts? Thanking you in advance!
 
I would go with mechanical breakdown if it ruptured. Leak if its slowly leaking I assume. I found a payment policy from BC of Idaho listing examples of mechanical failure of breast implant as rupture, extrusion, contracture, etc
