Can we code S0285 if the Pt has a h/o polyps, h/o cca (ie. surveillance screening) as long as they are asymptomatic at the time of the OV?

Do you believe a surveillance colonoscopy meets the definition of a screening colonoscopy? I pose this question because the definition of S0285 is "Colonoscopy consultation performed prior to a screening colonoscopy procedure". So, in my mind you would only use S0285 if the patient is having a colonoscopy, not any other CRC test, and if the scheduled colonoscopy is absolutely a screening procedure.

Also, this code is not covered for Medicare, and you will need to check with your various commercial insurance companies and your state's Medicaid program to determine if they even cover this code

This is just my opinion; others may have another take on whether a surveillance colonoscopy would qualify as a screening colonoscopy.
