We're receiving denials for Laproscopic Salpingoophorectomies for the sterilization forms? But, in these cases are the ones that are scheduled for an ovarian cystectomy. Therefore the Salpingoophorectomy was not planned. The patient had adhesions and the surgeon felt it was best to remove the ovary and tube. Any suggestions to fight this?

unfortunately, you won't have much luck without the consent form. I assume this is for medicaid? The federal law states that the patient has to give voluntary consent 30 days before the surgery.

Yes this is a medicaid product. The consent wasn't signed because the procedure wasn't planned. Any ideas of better process with these type of cases where the patient has an ovarian cyst. The cyst removal is planned and they end up removing the tube and ovary.

It shouldn't be categorized at "sterilization" if only one ovary and tube were removed. Normal sterilization is bilateral and the ovary is left in place.
And the removal of the tube was secondary to removal of the adhesions so could it end up bundled with the main procedure.
Does the 30 day rule still apply for a non-sterilization treatment?
