I need some help. I am new to coding Outpatient Same Day Surgeries and Observations and I am feeling lost. I had zero training and my charts are being reviewed by another coder who wants me to code everything whether it was relevant to why the patient was there or not. I understand coding chronic conditions, long term drugs, and diagnoses that effect anesthesia, but my understanding of outpatient coding is to code what it relevant to the reason the patient was there and what was addressed during the stay. Could someone help me to understand what I should and should not be coding.
