We have a coding question debate among our coders. We have a doctor that ordered a PSA screen. He used hypergonadism as the diagnosis.
Some coders are saying that it should be sent back to the doc for clarification on whether it should have been a diagnostic PSA (since he put hypergonadism) or a true regular screening lab (like he came in for a yearly routine checkup and doing just regular screening labs). The other coders say that we should just add the screening code as primary and the hypergonadism as the second. Saying that they can have a problem such as hypergonadism and do a screening PSA for it. I cant seem to find much info on screening code guidelines. HELP us.
