I have a question about using Z codes in a general office visit. so say a patient comes in for a scheduled visit and has hepatitis C. During this visit blood is drawn for screening of thyroid, lipid panel and STI's. My question is do I code only the Diagnosis for each procedure (Chronic Hepatitis C, B18.2) or do I code the Z Codes (Z13.2, Z11.3) or both?

you would code for the reason for the visit also code for screening of thyroid, STI to support why labs was done
also code conditions that currently exist at the time of visit and conditions that require or affect patient care, treatment, or management
