Patient had his infected hip prosthesis removed in Oct, came back to hospital in Jan with a new infection, that was a result from the surgery to remove the infected prosthesis- would you still code it as the infected prosthesis or would you have it coded as a new post op infection?

Look up sequelae (sp)-the new infection may be considered a result of the hip surgery. When was the prosthesis inserted and are you within the global period? Within that time frame it could be a complication.....so many things to consider!! As always, check the guidelines. lol
