Coding Specialist (Certified Professional Coder - CPC)
Full-Time | Orthopedic Practice Elk Grove Village, IL 60007Our growing Orthopedic Practice is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Coding Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical coding guidelines, excellent attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Position Summary
The Coding Specialist is responsible for reviewing medical records and accurately assigning diagnosis and procedure codes using ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems. This role works closely with providers and billing staff to ensure proper documentation, accurate claim submission, and compliance with industry regulations.Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Review and accurately code medical diagnoses, procedures, and services using ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
- Verify medical documentation to ensure accurate, complete, and compliant coding.
- Assign appropriate diagnosis and procedure codes based on provider documentation.
- Review patient charts and medical records for accuracy and completeness.
- Ensure coding practices comply with Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance, and regulatory requirements.
- Identify coding discrepancies and implement appropriate corrections.
- Submit accurate claims and assist with resolving coding-related billing issues.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
- Stay current with coding guidelines, regulations, payer requirements, and industry updates.
- Communicate effectively with healthcare providers and billing staff regarding documentation and coding questions.
- Maintain accurate coding records and assist with internal and external audits as needed.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of medical coding experience required.
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification required.
- Experience with orthopedic coding preferred.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
- Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and healthcare reimbursement processes.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
