I had an order for OP labwork with several dx listed. The only thing on the order was a list of the labwork the physician wanted done. Nothing stated or indicated screening. A fax came back stating that several V code diagnoses should have been added to the case. To me this basically indicates interpretation of what the physician was looking for without it being so stated.

He felt that I should have been able to figure out codes: v77.99, v78.1 and V81.2 on my own soley based on his string of lab requests.

I want to rebutt this but I cannot seem to locate the coding guidelines that would govern the fact that I cannot interpret diagnoses based on what has been ordered. Can anyone help me?

Thanks!
