I read the article titled Separate E/M with Screening Colonoscopy, Plus Pre-Op Screenings.
I have included a link to it here:
https://www.aapc.com/blog/27288-separate-em-with-screening-colonoscopy-plus-pre-op-screenings/
The patient is referred to the surgeon to have a screening colonoscopy. I have the same question as another posted after the article.
The patient is seen in the providers office on 12/11/2018 and scheduled for a screening colonoscopy.
The colonoscopy was scheduled and done on 01/16/2019.
Is the E/M visit billable when done days/weeks prior to the screening colonoscopy?

Q: How do I bill for a patient seen in our office prior to a screening colonoscopy with no GI symptoms and who is otherwise healthy?
A: A visit prior to a screening colonoscopy for a healthy patient is not billable.

One of his complaints was abdominal tenderness, but the physical exam show no abdominal tenderness. So does he have GI symptoms?

All I had was the above and no opportunity to query the provider.
