Although I have posted from my physician's coding for many years, I have just taken the jump to become a certified medical coder. This week I am learning about diagnosis coding and today, as I am posting a surgery from my physician's coding, I have come across something that I believe I learned was not necessary. Please advise. We did BMT and direct operative laryngoscopy (31535, 69436-50). I have been given 381.81,381.10 and 476.0, 530.81 as well as Down's dx code 758.0. But it is my understanding that because the Down's does not contribute (is not an underlying factor) that would not be coded, correct?

Downs would still be coded due to this is a chronic condition that exists at the time of surgery and affects patient care
