Service date vs admit date

Hello Coders:
Dr. does a late night workup in anticipation of an admit. The admit date falls to the next day. Do we bill the date of service or the actual admit date?

Hi Brittany:
This is one of those sticky ones, where the documentation is going to contain a different date than the hospital record. I'm thinking that we have to follow the documentation, regardless of whether it matches the hospital dates.
This will probably end up being appealed.
