Our BCBS contractor has recently starting denying all shave removals (CPT 113XX) if billed for D18.01 stating that the diagnosis is not a valid primary code. Anyone else having this issue?

Thank you,
Nicole

That is not true, they will cover destruction (17110/17111) if the hemangiomas meet their medical policy guidelines (Drainage, bleeding, burning, intense itching, or pain associated with the lesion) Our issue is specifically when the dermatologist does a shave removal of an irritated hemangioma.

This is a new denial for BCBS of Minnesota and I was hoping that other MN clinics were having success/tips for appealing.
