If a provider documents a that a shave removal was performed on basal cell of the ear, then the base and edges of the lesion were vigorously curetted beyond the edges, what would be the best code/code combination for that? I know destruction codes include surgical curettement so should I report both 11310 and 17280? Or should 17280 include the shave as well? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Code using 17280 only.

You choose a code that most extensively describes the procedure done. In this case, even though it was a shave removal, since the base was destroyed via curettement, you choose the destruction code only.
