Can someone help me. I am getting mixed messages on billing the Shingles Vaccine. I have been told that the physician should not bill this at all and that the patient should be referred to a local pharmacy, etc. that offers this type of vaccine. I was also told that this is not a covered benefit under Medicare????

Shingles

It may be covered under patient's Medicare Part D benefits. I work for a family practice and we refer Medicare patients to the pharmacy. We check patient benefits before we administer. Some commerical plans do cover well and some not so well. The vaccine is very expensive and reimbursment may not even cover your cost. Some insurance have an age requirement of 60 and some cover at age 50.
