For my practicode. The pt had varicose veins with pain on the lt leg. The procedure was a stab phlebectomy, but with only 5 incisions; so I coded 37799 per the guidelines.
It didn't say "this payer requires RT/LT modifiers" as is customary, but I coded LT anyway, because that's which leg it was. The rationale is giving me mixed signals about whether that was wrong. Screenshot attached. It scored me the full 3/3, but LT is in red, which normally indicates the code/modifier/units number is incorrect. Is this a practicode error (suggested by giving me full points), or is there some reason a varicose vein phlebectomy should not specify the side?
