I am a certified Urology coder and am helping the Pediatric Neurosurgery department until they hire a coder.
The child has Chiari 1 Malformation and provider is performing a suoccipital creniectomy with c1 & 2 bilateral laminectomires. Resection adn shrinkage of cerebellar tonsils, spinal cord monitoring and ultrasound and microdisscetion.

So far I am coding 61343 and 69990. Two questions...
1. Is there a separate code for the resection and shrinkage of the cerebellar tonsils or is it inclusive with the major surgery.
2. I understand that the ultrasound is inclusive however is there a code (sucha as 95971 or 95972) for the spinal cord monitoring.

Thanks for your help

Angel

The codes you have so far is what I would bill. You can not bill separately for the spinal cord monitoring, interop monitoring cant be billed by the surgeon performing the procedure.
