If a patient has Sickle Cell Anemia with pain crisis, or crisis of any kind, and it's being actively managed by an MD, would this be considered a moderate or high risk if being treated with medication and actively monitored when a patient is being seen as a subsequent patient in the hospital? Assuming exam is comprehensive would the E & M be 99232 or 99233?
Thanks

The MDM is not just the level of risk of presenting problem. Yes, I would give the sickle cell anemia with crisis a high risk, but what about complexity of data or diagnoses? Is the Sickle Cell anemia a new or established problem? Worsening or improved for that visit? It's not quite enough info to code from.
