Wiki Simple mastectomy w/sentinel node bx

Our surgical oncologist performed a simple mastectomy (19303) and a sentinel node biopsy through that same mastectomy incision. Can I code the biopsy (38525) separately if no axillary incision was made and this was done through one mastectomy incision?

There are no CCI conflicts with those codes being billed together. I think it is ok to bill together.

It would be best to post the operative report so we can provide better codes. But you can code it as

19303
38525

But you need to make sure the operative just reads this was done due to there are other ways of coding a case. I hope that helps

For a sentinel lymph node biopsy you also use 38900
