So many phrases. Is there a difference?

1.how do you know who to bill for services. We are a specialists group and we see patients from nursing homes. Should we be clarifying if there
are a nursing home or skilled nursing facility?

2. When we see a patient from a skilled nursing facility and they are under a medicare skilled nursing facility stay (inpatient) do we bill the skilled nursing facility? Or
medicare?

I work for a specialist office and when a nursing home patient is seen in the office with Medicare, we call the nursing home and ask if the patient is in skilled care or intermediate care. If it is skilled care, we bill the nursing home for specific procedures only and Medicare gets billed for specific procedures such as the office visit. I went to CMS website and downloaded the SNF billing list and whatever is not on that list gets billed to the nursing home. I hope this information helps you.
