Has anyone use code 99406 along with E/m code when dr discusses quitting smoking for risks for healing of fracture or upcoming surgery? or is this for counseling clinics. thanks for your input in advance.

Well we know tobacco and nicotine increase the risk of fractures, and interfere with the healing process so I would think this is something we can bill... however, do we need to provide preventive care such as Rx for meds (Chantix, etc.) and not just counseling??
I personally do not know the answer - but I think this is an excellent question to raise here!! I'm hoping to see some feedback on this as well!
