Does anyone know if it is necessary to code the smoking status on a lung cancer patient? Or point me in the right direction. I am getting conflicting information.

When coding for lung cancer with ICD10, you should always code smoking status if there is one. (If the patient doesn't have any smoking exposure, only code the lung cancer code)
If you are getting conflicting info, review the guidelines, copy them down, and hand them out to whoever is telling you different.
