Hello,

Hoping someone has seen a similar scenario and would have some coding advice. I code for anesthesia and we had a patient given an epidural for labor, the epidural was used for 12ish hours, at which point the pt wanted it removed and attempted to ambulate and have an unmedicated birth, after 12+ hours of the epidural being OUT (close to 14 hours after removal) pt had a spinal placed and went for C-section. They were also on separate days with the spinal/c section being done at 6am the following day from attempted labor.
So, would you bill the c-section as the 01968 add on even with the time gap? or 01961? Since the patient was re-prepped for the spinal, they were separate DOS, and the epidural had been out close to 14 hours, we submitted them as separate claims with 01961 for the C-section. Curious if anyone has experience billing a similar claim or advise for this situation, thanks!!
