Will someone please tell me the guideline for split billing with a physician and a physician assistant? I have no experience with this and one of the physicians are asking about this. I need to explain how this can be done.

Split billing applies to inpatient visits. When both a physician and ACP provide inpatient E&M services the same day, it is billed under the clinician who provided the substantive portion of the visit, or greater than 50% of the time.

It was expected to change in 2024 to be based only by which provider spent > 50% of time, but it will likely again be delayed.
