Hi,

If a brochoscopy path result comes back as squamous, would that be coded as cancerous? I say no because squamous means scaley not cancerous, but another coder was told to code it as cancer. Any thoughts????

Thanks!! :)

Squamous cell

I had the same question it is Squamous cell and it is not listed and Squamous Carcinoma.

Sorry, I'm asking for a friend, so I haven't seen the path. She said the path reported "squamous cells, atypical cells......" but did not say carcinoma anywhere in the findings. I told her I didn't think she should use the diagnosis of cancer unless the path specifically stated cancinoma.
