Recently I was listening to Clark Howard (I know I am a nerd- lol) and he advised his listeners to not give out their SSN in medical establishments because of identity theft. I do not know about you all, but several insurance companies that I call require that number or at least the last four digits for security purposes before I can even talk to them. I have never had a patient not give us their SSN. Has anyone had experience with a patient not giving out the SSN and then needing it to talk to the insurance company? This may be the start of a trend - just curious how other offices handle this situation. Thanks!
