Good day. How can we get paid by bcbs for a pt that came in to get std tested? We have gotten some denials on the codes v65.55, v69.8, and v71.89. Any suggestions or help is greatly needed. The denials keep saying its a routine test.

Did you look under screening code V74.5 Venereal disease. Screening for sexually transmitted diseases NOS?

that seems good but we did not do the screening, we sent the pt to the lab. Can we still use?

If it is documented that the patient is sexually active, we use V69.2, high-risk sexual behavior.

Some BCBS will not pay for the V-codes because they are screening or not medically necessary. So the question is, why are they denying it? If it is coded accurately and BCBS is not payin because it's not a benefit for that diagnosis, it may very well be the patient's responsibility.
