Would someone help me with this. I have a physician that want to charge a routine visit (99213), but use V74.5. When I explained we needed to use a Preventative visit, they didn't want to since the patient had no other symptoms present. They want to know is there a visit code for "screening STDs". I have searched, but everything points back to preventative visits. Since I am new to this, does anyone have any suggestions?

You can bill a 99212 and the V74.5 code is ok for an office visit since a preventative visit is doing a whole work up (cholesterol etc) unless he did a full preventative exam but if the patient came in just for the std screening then its the 99212 and V74.5. I think 99213 is high for this. Hope this helps
