A balloon angioplasty (open approach) was done of the proximal right external iliac artery. There was 40% stenosis after the angioplasty. For this reason a stent was placed across the area. A balloon explandable stent was used deployed just below the hypogastric artery takeoff.
Can the stent be reported with the angioplasty. Both are of the iliac artery since there was documented residual stenosis. Does CCI support the angioplasty with a modifier 59 and the stent placement?

The rule of thumb when billing stents after angioplasties is "50% residual stenosis" and/or "flow-limiting disection" after the angioplasty. Z Health Publishing is were I've heard that information below.

An open iliac 35454 and an open stent 37207 are not bundled, according to CCI.
