Hi,

I had a general question regarding instances when certain exams aren't fully visualized. For instance if there is overlying gas that leaves part of a US Abdominal unvisualized, does this require modifier 52 (reduced services) or is it acceptable not to apply a modifier in this instance?

Thanks

Per guidelines as long as the physician indicates the reason for the inability to visualize a specific organ you don't have to add the 52 or downcode.

You're welcome..... If you need the back up it is on page 380 of the 2012 CPT Professional Edition.
