Wiki Subsequent Hospital Encounters (99231 - 99233)

Our office is having issues with receiving denials for subsequent hospital encounters (99231 - 99233) billed on the same claim, even though they have different dates of service. Does anyone know if anything changed regarding billing of subsequent hospital encounters?

Should not be an issue with the codes; Check these issues

• is it hitting a duplication error from someone else in the group or same specialty
• is it all carriers?
• is the patient still inpatient on those dates?
• is it a front end edit or insurance denial?
