Does anyone know if direct supervision is required for a PA or NP to administer chemotherapy infusions? I have been told it differs by state but cannot find any documentation to support this. If anyone has documentation I would appreciate it if you could send it my way.

When I was doing research on this CMS stated in the Federal Register that physicians must supervise all off-campus provider-based departments .. view the OPPS rule on the CMS website at www.cms.hhs.gov/HospitalOutpatietnPPS/ It is direct supervision, yes, meaning the physician must be immediately available to furnish assistance and direction . it does not mean that he or she must be present in the room.
