Good afternoon, all. I recently started a job as a billing specialist for a local counseling office. The owner of the company ask me today if it was possible to bill an LAPC with a supervising provider. I have reached out to my provider reps for billing guidelines (this place is a mess and I’m trying to clean it up)

also interested if anyone has billed behavioral health as a group? My background is in FQHC so it seems like a no brainer that we would try to bill as a group.

We don't have LAPCs in my state, so I cannot comment on that.

If all of the providers work for the group, then yes, they should be billed as a group with the group NPI and then the individual rendering provider's NPI. I used to work for a group of 7 providers; 4 were psychologists (PhD) and 3 were licensed clinical social workers (LCSW). The biggest thing was making sure that all of the individual providers are credentialed with each insurance company as well as the group being credentialed.

Billing as a group vs billing as an individual provider is not going to affect reimbursement.

I am a billing supervisor in a BH clinic. We so not have LAPC in our state either but everyone is set up with an NPI number, set up the supervising provider, and bill under the agency's NPI. The group vs individual will not affect the reimbursement rate.
