Hello Everyone,

Can anyone suggest how to pick HCPCS supply code for the following injections,


"Greater occipital nerve block and trigger point injections using bupivicaine (Marcaine) 0.5% 5cc and lidocaine 1% 5cc"

Bupicaine is S0020, but some carriers do not accept the S-codes. In this case you would need to use submit J3490. The only HCPCS code for lidocaine is J2001 (Injection, lidocaine HCl for intravenous infusion, 10 mg), which is for IV administration only. So again this would be J3490.

Most Medicare contractors do not pay separately for bupivacaine or lidocaine. It is included in the procedure code billed.
