If a patient is having an outpatient procedure in an Ambulatory Surgery Center and the procedure has to be stopped or is not truly started for any reason, can we bill for just the supplies, anesthesia, time or nursing time?
In my experience you can't bill for the supplies, etc. - but depending on when the procedure was cancelled or stopped you would bill the procedure code and use either modifer 73 or 74 of Ambulatory facilities and physician billing would use modifiers 52 or 53 - I have billed our physician services with mod 52 or 53 depends on if the patient was prepped and/or procedure started - Read the description for the modifiers and you will need to send the note stating what stage in process to the carrier
