what counts as the start of a surgery? Is it right after anesthesia is administered? Or is it before that? Ex. Patient is administered anesthesia @11:55 pm on 9/19, the surgical procedure starts at 12:18 am on 9/20. Is surgery date 9/19 or 9/20 when the surgery begins?

The definition as to the start of the surgery can be a little bit of a grey area. The American College of Surgeons recommends using the point of incision as the start date and time of the surgery.
