Operation performed:
1) Removal and revision of sling, 57287
2) Percutaneous cystotomy 51040????
3) Removal of foreign body from bladder 52310????

The patient apparently had sling mesh that went into the right side of the bladder. I just want to verify these codes are correct. I'm having a hard time agreeing with my physician on what to bill. I see no code for a percutaneous cystotomy either!

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

why he did the cystotomy for?

52310 is a Cystourethroscopy (cysto thru urethra to the bladder to remove the foreign body and if is complicated (due to previous surgery or the size or codition of the foreign body) then you can use 52315.

I believe the cystotomy was done in order to get to the foreign body (mesh). The report says that there was sling mesh exposed in the bladder with a through and through defect on the right side of the bladder.

I am having a hard time comprehending a percutaneous cystotomy. Especially knowing the patient was having sling removed and revised.

There's also 57295, Revision (including removal) of prosthetic vaginal graft, vaginal approach. This is the code my physicians use when a patient comes in to get their mesh removed.
