Surgery with Co-surgeons and Assistant

If anyone has any documentation regarding the following:
Two co-surgeons different specialist and Assistant as well. Does anyone know if you can also bill for the Assistant claim as well, as there are two separate claims for the Co-surgeon.

It probably won't be paid unless maybe work comp. There can be exceptions. You would have to check the payer's guidelines.

It also depends on if it was team surgery or co-surgery with assistant-at-surgery.

Example: United Healthcare follows CMS guidelines and does not reimburse for Assistant Surgeon services, as indicated by modifiers 80, 81, 82, or AS, for procedures where reimbursement has been provided for eligible Co-Surgeon services, using the same surgical procedure code, during the same encounter.
