The hospital I work for has hired a Surgical Physicians Assistant to assist with surgeries with non-employed surgeons. His supervising physician will not be performing the surgery. I'm trying to find out if this is compliant. Can a Surgical PA assist with a non-supervising, non-employed surgeon?

If so, does the Surgical PA need to be supervised and billed under an employed surgeon in the same specialty as the surgery being performed?

Any assistance is appreciated!
