Wiki Suture Removal

We report ICD-9 code V58.32 for suture removal. Would you also add a secondary for the open wound as well?

A provider of mine feels that the wound code will be necessary in order to be reimbursed for the V code. I think that wound would be considered healed by the removal of the sutures.

Thoughts?

We only code the suture removal and V58.32 is an Aftercare code. so, the code for the wound is not necessary unless treatment is directed at an acute injury is my understanding.

Jules is correct. Remember the dx is the patient's therefore if they do not have an acute open wound then do not code for one.
