I work for a physician who is employed at a Critcial Access Hospital. We have a swing bed unit. My physician admitted the patient to "in-patient" status on the floor, also seen and billed subsequent hospital visits and discharged the patient while in "in-patient" status. The patient was discharged from in-patient status and on the same day admitted to "swing bed" status. I have information stating I can bill discharge and swing bed admission for the same date of service, but how do I bill the second admission to the swing bed.....our swing bed is not a SNF. Wouldn't the insurance company deny claim for the swing bed admission?? Is there a modifier for this instance?? Can my physician bill subsequent visits while in swing bed or is it a one time only billing service??
