Anyone else having trouble making sure an attending was at the delivery? We have a family practice where OB/GYN of course is part of the cirriculem. We have a contract with a group to help provide coverage for this both at the office and for deliveries. The residents are very hesistant to document when an attending is not at the actual delivery. However, Medicare regulations require an attending at birth, as part of teaching physician supervison rules. The correct coding is that if the attending is not present you must only bill pre and post visits, not the global. What if they are in the next room?
