Hi... We're looking for help for a United Health Commercial member. Our patient had a telephone only visit with our physician in January 2022. We used CPT code G2012 only, as we used all of 2021. Our claim has been denied multiple times, and United is telling us that we need to use a primary procedure code in addition to G2012 for this visit. We're not sure how to proceed. Has anyone else had this issue?
 
They may be looking for a code from the following:

  • 99441: telephone E/M service; 5-10 minutes of medical discussion
  • 99442: telephone E/M service; 11-20 minutes of medical discussion
  • 99443: telephone E/M service, 21-30 minutes of medical discussion
 
As stated, use codes 99441-3 depending on how long the call lasted. Then make sure to add the modifier -95 and POS 02 on the claim, too.
