Can this phone call be billed to the workers compensation insurance?

You should check your states Worker's Compensation Manual/Fee Schedule. If CPT 99441-99443 (based on time) has an associated fee, then your state board of W/C does allow for this service. The CPT directions for these codes, however, state that if the call is related to a previous visit within 7 days, a visit develops within 24 hours as a result of the call, or if the pt is in a global postop period, then the call is not billable.

I agree with above, but also recommend that you read the guidelines for those codes in the CPT book. Another stipulation for using them is that the patient must initiate the call. So in your example, the provider calling the patient, wouldn't qualify.
