Wiki temporary pinning metacarpophalangeal joint

Doctor did a suspensionplasty of the right thumb and then a "temporary pinning of the metacarpophalangeal joint, right thumb.

He did the pinning because the patient had a tendency toward hyperextension of the metacarpophalangeal joint.

I get the suspensionplasty, but I am not able to find anything for the temporary
pinning. Am I just not looking in the right place ?
I would appreciate help and suggestions.
